The Dutch cyclist from the team of Skil – Shimano, Kenny Robert Van Hummel became the winner of the first stage of the Albert Achterhes Profronde van Drenthe 2011 (2.1 UCI). He beat the Italian cyclist Sacha Modolo (Colnago – CSF Inox) and the British Adam Blythe (Omega Pharma-Lotto). Bartłomiej Matysiak from CCC Polsat Polkowice arrived at the finishing line in the 31st place.
In the race of Profronde van Drenthe the team of CCC Polsat Polkowice appeared as follows: Bartłomiej Matysiak, Błażej Janiaczyk, Tomasz Kiendyś, Paweł Charucki, Tomasz Smoleń, Andre Schulze and Sylwester Janiszewski.
During stage 1 whose route led from Coevorden to Hoogeveen, the cyclists had to cover the distance of 180.1 kilometres. It was a very hard stage both because of the high pace the cyclists imposed on themselves from the start. Additionally, racing was made more difficult by the strong side wind. Despite the numerous attacks and attempts to break away almost the whole peloton reached the finishing line in Hoogeveen and the fight for the win came out of it. The very actively riding from the very beginning team of Skil Shimano excellently led out Van Hummel and he became the winner of stage 1. Sacha Modul finished as the second, and the third place was taken by Adam Blythe.
Bartek Matysiak completed the race in the 31st place and the 40th place was taken by another cyclists from the ‘orange’ team Błażej Janiaczyk. Sylwester Janiszewski withdrew from the competition.
