After finishing 2nd in the morning stage 1, Alan Banaszek sprinted to victory on stage 2 of Race of Solidarity and the Olympians.
Info: 28 June, Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Kielce, 121,3km
The afternoon stage featured 3 riders breaking clear, but the peloton, with all CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders, had things under control. They closed the 5-minute gap and despite few late attacks it was all decided in a bunch sprint finish.
After missing out on victory in the morning stage, this time Alan Banaszek made necessary adjustments and took the win. He bested Johim Ariesen (Metec – TKH) and Kamil Zieliński (Domin), taking over the GC and points classification lead. 20-year old rider also owns the youth classification jersey.
The team supported me throughout the entire stage, so they deserve a lot of credit for that win. It was raining before the start, so the roads were wet and slippery and we had to stay concentrated. In the end I felt great. My legs were strong as ever and I was able to finish off the sprint. When I kicked I knew right away that I’m sprinting for victory and I was able to take a convincing win – Alan Banaszek said afterwards.
