Marko Kump was born and raised in Novo Mesto, in Slovenia. He took up cycling when he was 9 or 10 years old and he did it, because a lot of his friends did. In the beginning it was more about fun. He was part of a nice group of kids, and he felt comfortable in such environment. The name of his first team was Krka Telekom, which after few years changed sponsors and today it’s Adria Mobil. They are based in his hometown of Nove Mesto and Kump turned pro racing in their colors.

As a kid, he would also try other sports, such as football, basketball, running, but it was just for fun. He was always focused on “two wheels”.

He’s one of the most successful and most experienced riders on the team, as he represented some World Tour squads and competed in biggest races in the world. He is a multiple stage winner in Tour of Qinghai Lake, Tour de Slovenia and Croatia-Slovenia. He also has a victory in Velothon Stockholm and on the stage of Coppi e Bartali under his belt (among others).

Outside of cycling he likes hiking, but most of his time, when he’s off the bike, he spends with his family. With two small boys, who he considers to be his biggest achievement in life, there is always something to do.

Even though he finished computer programming school, he can’t see himself working not in sports.
