Robert Krajewski: “on the first stage we had a bad luck”

The first stage of Tour Mediterraneen in France went to an excellent sprinter, Andy Greipel, who was leading the race.

The first stage of the Tour de Mediterraneen (UCI category 2.1) is behind us – sports director Robert Krajewski informs. The idea for the day was to ride the alert stage without referring more losses. Although the route stage for the last 100 kilometers were relatively flat it was not at all an easy section. There were a lot of hills at the beginning and very favorable weather conditions. It started to rain, the temperature dropped to 5 degrees Celsius and in addition a strong wind began to blow. On the second mountain bonus (44 km route) cyclists welcomed the snow.Very quickly, because on the 10 km route from a peloton drove off 3 cyclists. They quickly gained a significant advantage on the peloton. After crossing the mountain bonus, they had the advantage of reaching 5 minutes. Then in the peloton a team of Andre Greipel (Lotto BELISOL) started to work on, they did not want to let the advantage of the three cyclists continued to grow. At 10 km before the finish, Lotto BELISOL started to attack and Andre Greipel finished first the line and won this season.Unfortunately, it was not without luck. In one of the accidents was involved Mateusz Taciak (fortunately nothing serious happened). As a result of the fall he broke his derailleur and had to change a bike. Along with Adrian Honkisz that helped him, they did not catch up the speeding peloton. In addition, the 5 km before the finish line, Nikolay Mihaylov had a flat tire and after changing the wheel he had no longer a chance to catch up with the peloton. Tomorrow (Thursday) the next stage – the individual time trial on the route length of 24km from the finish line at the top. Probably time trial initially “work out” a general classification race, but I think the winner of the race will be known only after four stages of the finish on Mont Faron.
