Michał Paluta was the top finisher of CCC Sprandi Polkowice in the one-day Rund um Koln. The race was won by Tom Boonen.
The decisive move came in the first half of racing, when big group of riders launched an attack. The breakaway of the day consisted of around 20 riders and it included few very strong runners, such as Tom Boonen, Petr Vakoc, Gerard Ciolek, Linus Gerdemann, Edward Theuns, Raymond Kreder or Maarten Tjallingii. CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders didn’t make the final cut.
Due to the fact, that most of the strongest teams in the race were present in the escape, its chances of going all the way to the finish were quite large. The gap leveled out at 2:30 and the bunch was being led by Giant-Alpecin, which didn’t have a representative in the breakaway either.
With several dozen kilometers to go, five riders pulled away from the leading group, Boonen, Maes, Schillinger, Theuns i Gerdemann. They cooperated well together and held off the chasers. They arrived at the line and the race was decided in a 5-man sprint. Tom Boonen took advantage of his teammate’s help in the end and grabbed a victory. He outsprinted Theuns and Schillinger.
Michał Paluta came in in 42nd and was the highest CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider. Jakub Kaczmarek finished in 48th.
