Info: February 17th, stage 3, Lucena – Córdoba, 12km, individual time trial
Weather: sunny, warm
The 12-kilometer time trial didn’t feature course for typical time trialists, due to tough climb early on. Thus, Marcin Białobłocki couldn’t ride up to his potential. He was the first CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider and one of the first ones in general to tackle the TT, recording 15:44 (44s off the pace).
Felix Grossschartner, who is also known for his unusual skills in racing against the clock, was even 5 seconds faster than Białobłocki. When it was all said and done, he took 23rd place in the stage standings, 44 seconds behind the winner. 2015 Polish TT champion, finished in 28th.
Victor Campenaerts (Team LottoNL-Jumbo) was also one of the early starters. After his ride he sat in the “hot seat” and stayed there until the very end. The battle for the top 3 on the stage lasted until the last rider, GC leader Alberto Contador, reached the line. He was not that interested in the stage victory, as he was focused on outpacing his biggest rival, Alejandro Valverde. Movistar rider gained 5 seconds on the leader jersey wearer though, and took back the lead.
