One of the best Polish road cyclists, Marek Rutkiewicz (CCC Polsat Polkowice) is preparing himself for the next starts. – I am training in Myślenice, but from time to time I also go further towards Zakopane and partially familiarize myself with the climbs that will be within the route of this year’s Tour de Pologne – told s24.pl the popular ‘Rutek’.
The cycling season is in full swing. Behind us there are several interesting and important events, but there is still a lot ahead of us. Soon the Małopolski Wyścig Górski starts, then cyclists will fight for medals of the road cycling championships of Poland in Złotoryja, at the end of June the 22nd edition of the Race of Solidarity and Olympics starts, and finally the whole Poland will watch Tour de Pologne.
Recently Rutkiewicz has been preparing himself for Małopolski Wyścig Górski, which starts today (Wednesday 15 June). – Later, there is one race after another – says Marek. – Next Thursday there are the Championship of Poland of the Elite in time trial, and on Sunday the Championships of Poland of Elite massed start race. Right after it, on Monday, we are flying to China, for a race of HC category.
– For sure both MWG and the Championship of Poland are very important races for me – that is why I would like to have best results possible in them, but the time will show whether I will reach for the victory in any of them.
The preparations for Tour de Pologne
– I have already started preparations. After Grody Piastowskie I took a 2-week break in hard trainings. I have been training since the beginning of June, and I have started making my plan of starts so that it could have as positive an influence as possible on my form at the end of July and beginning of August. There is no denying that our stay in China, held 3500 metres above sea level, will play a very important role in these preparations.
This time in Tour de Pologne Marek Rutkiewicz is not going to race in the colours of the National Team, but he is going to represent his team: CCC Polsat Polkowice. Will he be its leader? As for the general classification – certainly yes. – It is not unlikely that if any of the cyclists does better than me in the mounain stretches we will go for him.
Of course the podium is the goal for Marek Rutkiewicz during this year’s Tour de Pologne, and as usually the victory – a dream of the cyclist – if everything goes well. Everybody realizes that it will be extremely difficult, but
