Maciej Paterski set 4th and Łukasz Owsian 7th best time in the prologue, held on the streets of Sibiu, which started off Romanian stage event, Sibiu Cycling Tour.
Info: Prologue, 5th of July, Sibiu – Sibiu, 2,3km
Course: flat, twisty, technical, on cobbles
How it unfolded
The prologue of Sibiu Tour was very short, but it didn’t mean that it was going to be easy. The course was very technical, with many turns and dirt in the corners. Most of it was paved with cobbles so it was all very tricky.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice took on the opening stage in such order: Simone Ponzi, Jonas Koch, Maciej Paterski, Łukasz Owsian, Marcin Białobłocki and Nikolay Mihaylov, who was defending the 2016 title and rolled down the start ramp as the last rider.
Maciej Paterski was the fastest among them, clocking 3:12:21, 4th best time of the day. He lost only 5 seconds to the winner, Andrea Palini (Androni Giocattolli). Luca Pacioni (also Androni Giocattolli) and Carlos Eduardo Alzate (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team) rounded out the podium. Łukasz Owsian put up a great time trial as well, taking 7th place (time of 3:13).
Tomorrow, the first stage will start and finish in the city of Sibiu (Sibiu – Blaj – Miercurea Sibiului – Sibiu). The 211.8km long stage will include seven classified climbs as well as three intermediate sprints.
