Three CCC Sprandi Polkowice finished inside the top 10 in the uphill time trial on stage 3 of Sibiu Cycling Tour. Among them there was GC leader, Nikolay Mihaylov, who kept the jersey.
The time trial started at the waterfall Bâlea Cascada at 1620m above the sea level and finished at the glacial lake Bâlea Lac at 2040 m. The 6,8-kilometer course featured 13 hairpins, the average gradient of 6,18% and the finale in the open terrain, with no places to hide from the wind.
First “rider in orange” to tackle that ascent was Jakub Kaczmarek, while race leader, Nikolay Mihaylov was the last one the start. Yellow jersey wearer, as well as Branislau Samoilau and Davide Rebelline claimed top 10 places, finishing in 5th, 6th and 8th respectively, 27, 29 and 35 seconds off the pace. Since the biggest rivals of Bulgarian in the overall standings, recorded slower times, Mihaylov added more time on them in GC and strengthen his position as the leader.
Kiri Podznyakov (Synergy Baku Cycling Project) was the fastest up the road, with 16:20:17, beating Alessio Taliani (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec ) and Serghei Tvetcov (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec), by 6 and 10 seconds.
Tomorrow the race will be wrapped by an undulating, evening stage around Sibiu.
