Grzegorz Stępniak claimed the podium spot in Velothon Stockholm and was one of two CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders who made the top 10.
Due to many breakaway attempts, the pace on the initial 50 kilometers was very strong. When the bunch finally let an escape go, Michał Podlaski, Alexander Wetterhall, Edvin Wilson and Rasmus Mygind were in the front. They never established too much of advantage though. The biggest gap was 2:30.
With around 60 kilometers to go the bunch picked up the pace and began reducing the differential. The break was reeled in few minutes after it entered the final circuits (4 laps, 5km each). Nobody was able to pull away late in the race and it ended with a bunch sprint finale.
Grzegorz Stępniak finished that sprinters’ battle in third place and was defeated only by the winner Marko Kump (Adria Mobil) and runner-up Daniel Hoelgaard (Team Joker). Maciej Paterski, who is preparing for the world championship in Richmond, rounded out top 10.
