Szymon Sajnok took home overall victory at Mazovia Tour after retaining the yellow jersey on the final stage.
Info: July 28th, stage 3, Teresin – Teresin, 168km
Course: eight flat laps, 21km each
Unlike the two previous stages, this time the breakaway was formed on first lap and included six riders. CCC Sprandi Polkowice were not too eager to be part of that move, as the focus was set on protecting the GC leader, Szymon Sajnok.
Advantage of attackers at some point was at 2:20, but then “riders in orange” picked up the pace, bringing it down to one minute. Eventually escape was brought back in on a penultimate lap, but that sparked new moves. Attackers took the last intermediate sprint and that meant that Szymon Sajnok secured overall victory.
Bunch didn’t allow break to stay away and reeled them back in on the final circuit. Szymon Sajnok didn’t want to take unnecessary risk at the finish, before European Championships, and sprinted to 6th place. Alois Kankovsky got the win, edging out Richard Holec and Adrian Banaszek.
I was blocked in the finale and I didn’t want to try to get out of that spot at all cost. It’s a pity since my teammates worked very hard today and I wanted to finish that effort off – Szymon Sajnok explained. – It’s a very nice feeling to have won a stage race. I also liked the role of being the GC leader. I’m ok with taking responsibility for team’s result, since I turn that pressure into positive motivation. I don’t want to let anyone down, as everyone is working for me and I want to make my teammates proud. They were brilliant in this race and they deserve a big think you.
Szymon Sajnok stepped onto the GC podium together with Kankovsky who claimed 2nd and Grzegorz Stępniak who was 3rd. Young sprinter also won youth classification and – together with teammates – teams classification.
