Marcel Kittel from the group of Skil Shimano turned out to be the best in the second stage of the 68th Tour de Pologne UCI World Tour. For the young German this has been the second victory in our country already. Adrian Kurek rode excellently, reinforcing himself in the leading of the combativity classification.
The second stage started in Częstochowa. From the beginning we had attacks, and in the decisive one there were Bartłomiej Matysiak (CCC Polsat Polkowice) and Adrian Kurek (The National Team of Poland). Together with them in the breakaway there were: Pierre Cazaux (Euskaltel – Euskadi) and Paulo Bailetti (De Rosa-Ceramica Flaminia).
The escapees quickly gained two minutes of advantage, then it grew to four minutes. The Special Bonus in Mrzygłód was won by Matysiak. Then he turned out to be the best also at the intermediate stage in Poręba. The next two bonuses were won by Adrian Kurek, who thanks to that won as many as 13 bonus seconds.
The peloton gradually reduced the gap, however, the escapees managed to reach the climbs, where Matysiak proved to be the best, securing for himself the best climber’s jersey.
When the peloton caught the escapees at last, a fierce fight started, a result of which was a great crash two kilometers before the finishing line.
In that chaos Marcel Kittel did best. He overtook Heinrich Haussler and Graeme Brown. Thanks to bonuses Adrian Kurek jumped onto the second place in the general classification.
