TdP: Łukasz Bodnar in the King of the Mountains jersey.

The first stage of this year’s Tour de Pologne turned out to be really successful for the representatives of Poland. In fact, the victory at the finishing line in Warszawa was achieved by an Italian Jacopo Guarnieri, but on the podium we could see our compatriots three times. One of them was Łukasz Bodnar (CCC Polsat Polkowice), taking part in the race in the national team of Poland, who managed to win the only climb today thanks to his attacks at the final kilometres, and he became the leader of that classification.

I wanted to be seen in this stage a lot – Błażej Janiaczyk broke away earlier; however, there happened to be an opportunity for me at the end of the race and I took advantage of it. Of course, I had hoped to fight for something more than the mountain prime, but the peloton was riding about 70km/h at the end, so there was no way of maintaining the leading – said Bodnar, happy, at the finishing line.

My aim in this year’s Tour de Pologne is fighting to win the category of the most active – continued the cyclist, a regular representative of CCC Polsat Polkowice. Let us remind you that he had achieved such a success in the year of 2007.

Of course, I am happy about the King of the Mountains jersey and I will try to maintain it as long as possible. I admit, it is quite unusual, that a time-trial cyclist is taking the lead in the mountains classification, however for us the most important thing is to stand on the podium and so it happened.
