TdP: Marek Rutkiewicz’s good ride in the stage to Cieszyn

Marek Rutkiewicz (CCC Polsat Polkowice), as a representative of the national team of Poland at Tour de Pologne, has give a very good performance again. Despite adversities, in the stage to Cieszyn he was trying to fight for the stage win.

We have got used to the fact that during Tour de Pologne Marek Rutkiewicz does his best. Unfortunately, in Opole ‘Rutek’ fell in a crash, he lost over a minute and as a matter of fact, he does not count in the general classification of the race any more. Today on the way to Cieszyn the rider of the national team fought for the stage win in spite of pain.

At the very beginning we wanted to know whether he is simply angry, because he had won the stage, although the success was so close. – No, I am not angry. Yesterday, the general classification got away from me, now I want to fight in each stage and show myself to the fans – said Rutkiewicz.

The CCC Polsat Polkowice rider, who before TdP had had falls during the championships of Poland and the Race of Solidarity and the Olympics, during the second stage not only got bruised but also he destroyed the equipment. The not-too-cheap front wheel fell victim. – Today in the morning I felt terrible. For the ¾ of the stage I rode at the back of the peloton, my legs and groins hurt. Only before the Cieszyn circuits the pain subsided a bit. Fans encouraged me additionally. Perhaps it would have been better with the ‘old’ wheel [laughing] But Sergio Henao, with whom I was escaping in the end, was extraordinarily strong.

Rutkiewicz declares that, if he feels well, he will try to attack in Gliczarowo again. We are taking his word for it.
