The Hubala Race – Tomasz Kiendyś wins in Końskie

Tomasz Kiendyś from the team of CCC Polsat Polkowice won, after a lonely finish, the first stage of the Szlakiem Walk Majora Hubala road cycling race and he took the leading in the general classification. At the finishing line in Końskie he won against his team-mate Dariusz Batek and Artur Przydział (Romet Weltour Dębica).

During the first stage of the race the cyclists were competing on a 135 km long route, on laps around Końskie. Because of bad weather conditions and a small number of cyclists at the starting line, the distance of the race has been shortened to 3 laps.

At the starting line there were only 33 cyclists from Polish teams, among others from CCC Polsat Polkowice, Mróz ActiveJet, DHL Author, Weltour Romet Dębica, TC Chrobry Głogów and an Argentinian team: Start Cycling Team.
On the first lap, 45 kilometres long, the cyclists were riding relatively calm, only when the peloton approached the mountain prime, they fought for the points for the mountains classification. On the second lap the cyclists of CCC Polsat Polkowice attacked, forming a break-away group of 8 cyclists, in which there were: Tomasz Marczyński, Tomasz Kiendyś, Łukasz Bodnar, Sylwester Janiszewski and Dariusz Batek (all of them from CCC) as well as Artur Przydział (Weltour Romet Debica), Radosław Romanik (DHL Author) and Marcin Mrożek (TC Chrobry Głogów). The escaping group cooperating harmoniously (thanks to the CCC cyclists) quickly gained their advantage over the peloton, in which there were no volunteers to eliminate the break-away. When the cyclists entered the third lap, there were only Sylwester Janiszewski and Marcin Mrożek left from the original group of eight. The advantage of the escapees grew continuously and it was obvious that the break-away group will reach the finishing line in Końskie.

Right before entering the last straight stretch before the finishing line Tomasz Kiendyś attacked, crossing the finishing line alone, 5 seconds before his team-mate Dariusz Batek and Artur Przydział.
The peloton crossed the finishing line about 5 minutes later, and it was ‘brought’ by Adrian Honkisz (CCC Polsat Polkowice).

The results of stage 1 of the race:

1.Tomasz Kiendyś (CCC Polsat Polkowice)
2.Dariusz Batek (CCC Polsat Polkowice)
