Felix Grossschartner finished the Italian one-day event, Coppa Sabatini – Gran Premio città di Peccioli in 11th place, while two other “riders in orange” also made the top 20.
The 196-kilometer route of Coppa Sabatini – Gran Premio città di Peccioli had an up-and-down profile and was carried out on three circuits, which overlapped in some degree. They were 56,7km, 21,7 and 12,2-kilometer long and were covered one, three and six times respectively.
The breakaway of the day received a lot of freedom on this day. It included only two riders – Davide Ballerini (Italy) and Fabricio Ferrari (Caja Rural – RGA) – so the peloton let them gain almost 14 minutes of advantage.
Such a large gap was not enough to hold off the bunch though. The duo got caught on the last lap, and Ballerini was the one who stayed in the front the longest. He was brought back in with just 3km remaining.
It was all decided in an uphill sprint, which was won by Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani-CSF). He defeated Andrea Pasqualon (Team Roth) and Carlos Barbero (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA).
Felix Grosscharnter contested the sprint and finished in 11th place. In total CCC Sprandi Polkowice had three riders in the top 20, as Simone Ponzi took 14th and Rebellin 18th place.
