The Slovenian cyclist from the team of Sava, Luka Mezgec became the winner of the 13th Memorial of Henryk Łasak. In a sprinters’ duel at the finish in Sucha Beskidzka he beat his compatriot Blaz Fudri (Adria Mobil) and Tomasz Marczyński (CCC Polsat Polkowice).
150 cyclists representing all Polish professional teams, and cyclists from foreign teams from Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Moldovia, France and Croatia stood at the starting line of the race. The cyclists had a distance of the total length of 183 kilometres to ride, leading along the roads around Sucha Beskidzka. At first the peloton rode four times a 4-kilometre lap along the streets of Sucha Beskidzka and next it rode into a big, 31-kilometre loop. It led through Zembrzyce, Skawce, Mucharz, Tarnawa Górna, Krzeszów and Stryszawa. The route of the race led across a very hilly area, with one quite difficult uphill stretch situated in Tarnawa.
From the very beginning the cyclists set a very quick pace of riding. Even in the laps in Sucha Beskidzka in the peloton there were a lot of attacks and short breakaways, but none managed to gain a significant advantage. Only in the first big lap out of the peloton a group of 16 cyclists rode , in which there was, among others, Marek Rutkiewicz. It gained a little advantage of several seconds, but in the downhill stretches from Tarnawa the working hard peloton quickly eliminated the breakaway.
While negotiating the subsequent laps a lot of time groups of escapees left the peloton, but non managed to achieve a more significant advantage. The peloton consistently eliminated all attempts to break away. Even when the conditions of riding worsened and it started to rain quite heavily, it did not cause any changes in the peloton.
The peloton entered the last lap in one group and everything signaled that it would reach the finishing line and there would be a field sprint. However, after another series of leaps out of the peloton six cyclists broke away from the peloton. In that group there were: Lukas Mezgec (Sava), Blaz Fudri (Adria Mobil), Tomasz Marczyński (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Kristijan Durasek (Laborika Favorit Team), Paweł Cieślik (Bank BGŻ Team) and Toma Nose (Adria Mobil). Relatively quickly they gained an advantage of 30 seconds over the peloton and despite the insane chase on the part of the peloton, the escaping six cyclists managed to reach the finishing line and settle the fight for the victory among themselves. The first one to finish was the Slovenian Mezgec, overtaking his compatriot Furdi and the double championship winner of Poland Marczyński. The peloton finished the race 16 seconds behind the leader.
