Tomasz Smoleń (CCC Polsat Polkowice) won the 36th road cycling race for the Cup of the President of Ruda Śląska defeating Robert Radosz (Aktio Mostostal Puławy) and his own team-mate – Tomasz Kiendyś.
As usual, the best cyclists in Poland raced in Ruda Śląska on the 60-kilometre-long route along the streets of the town. Every second lap (2.5 km each) awarded points. In the elite and the U-23 race races there were 65 competitors, and the main price was as much as 10 thousand zlotys.
The contestants were accompanied by a heat of 30 degrees Celsius, but it did not disturb the CCC Polsat Polkowice cyclists, who from the very beginning wanted to play the race for themselves. Only the cyclists of Aktio Mostostal Group Puławy tried to prevent them, delegating the young Piotr Kirpsza to the first break-away.
Several laps later, the situation came back to normal and at the front of the peloton the old troupers appeared: Robert Radosz, Tomasz Kiendyś and Tomasz Smoleń. The trio quickly worked out their advantage and they distributed the points among themselves in the classification of the criterium. On the ‘generous’ laps only one cyclist from the peloton won one point. The active cyclists of the chase group were those from Legia-Felt, Weltour Romet Dębica.
Eventually, lonely crossing the finishing line Tomasz Smoleń won before Radosz and Kiendyś. Behind the break-away cyclists there was a group where the pace was set by Tomasz Wolski (Romet Weltour Dębica) and Zbigniew Gucwa (Albi Velo Sport).
