Tour de Langkawi: Banaszek 6th in Pekan

Alan Banaszek claimed another top 10 spot for CCC Sprandi Polkowice, taking 6th in stage 4 of Le Tour de Langkawi.

Info: March 21st, Dungun – Pekan, 183km

Course: flat

After yesterday’s successful breakaway, this time the peloton didn’t want to take any chances and started the chase earlier. The 6-man escape, which didn’t include CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders, went clear after 15km of racing and opened up 5-minute lead.

The advantage of attackers dropped to just 1 minute with 20km remaining and the “orange squad” was one of the teams that contributed to the pursuit. The breakaway got caught before the 10km mark and a moment later Callum Scotson (Mitchelton – BikeExchange) launched a solo attack.

Sprinters’ teams were digging deep to reel him in and they managed to bring him back. It was all decided in a bunch sprint finish, which was won by Riccardo Minali (Astana). Andrea Guardiniego (Bardiani-CSF) finished 2nd and Harrif Saleh (Terengganu Cycling Team) 3rd. Alan Banaszek put on a good fight in the finale, sprinting to 6th place.
