Alan Banaszek kicked off Le Tour de Langkawi with 9th place on the opening stage.
Info: Stage 1, March 18th, Kangar – Kulim, 147,9km
It was a typical sprinters’ stage, with easy to predict scenario. After 25km of racing three riders went away and later gained over 6-minutes on the bunch. CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders knew too well, that the chances of a small breakaway on such a stage like this is very slim and stayed in the peloton.
The trio was able to gather some points at intermediate sprints and one KOM, before they got caught with 37km to go. Despite lots of action late in the stage, the group remained all together until the finish and it was all decided in a bunch gallop.
Alan Banaszek was the man for the sprint on that stage, as he was led-out by his teammates in the finale. He finished 9th, while Andrea Guardini (Bardiani-CSF) took a win and a race lead. Seo Joon Yong (KSPO Bianchi Asia Procycling) was 2nd and Mekseb Debesay (Dimension Data) 3rd.
