Jan Tratnik just missed out on the podium in shortened stage 2 of Skoda Tour de Luxembourg, while Patryk Stosz kept his King of the Mountain Jersey.
Info: June 1st, stage 2, Junglinster – Schifflange, 89,2km
Course: undulating, punchy, uphill finish
Due to heavy rain and flooding streets stage two was shortened to just 89km and the start was postponed by two hours. With such a short distance it was certain, that the pace will be through the roof, right from the gun.
Despite that, four riders managed to go clear and gain nearly 2 minutes. CCC Sprandi Polkowice squad was not part of that move, but in the very end it didn’t matter, since the escape was brought back in with 4km to go.
The finale was tailored to punchy sprinters, since the last 500m were rising at over 10%. Jan Tratnik is one of such riders, and proved that by finishing in 4th place. Andrea Pasqualon (Wanty – Gobert) powered to victory, beating new GC leader, Alexander Krieger (Leopard Pro Cycling) and Alex Kirsch (WB Aqua Protect Veranclassic).
After the stage Tratnik retained his 4th place overall and Patryk Stosz his KOM jersey.
