Jan Tratnik took 2nd place in final general standings of Tour de Slovaquie and together with teammates, claimed the prize for victory in teams classification.
Info: September 16th, Nitra – Galanta, 157,2km
It was a pretty straight forward stage, with no hilly terrain whatsoever and simple (2km of strait road) and flat finale. The scenario was easy to predict, as 6 riders went clear early on and the gap was controlled by strongest teams in the race, including CCC Sprandi Polkowice. The biggest advantage the escapees were managed to achieve was just 2 minutes.
They were brought back in inside final 10km. It came down to a very close bunch gallop which was won by Fabio Jakobsen. He bested Matteo Pellucchi and Christophe Laporte, while Szymon Sajnok sprinted to 15th place. Jan Tratnik came in in the main pack, securing 2nd place overall. Since his teammates were around him, the squad claimed victory in teams classification.
I’m very satisfied with this race and my performance. I’d had long block of training before this event at the training camp, with no racing, so I was not sure what will be my level of fitness. Stage 1 held in the mountains surprised me a lot and showed that my form is in the right place, exactly where I want it to be.
I also felt strong on the rest three stages and together with my teammates, we were able to keep that 2nd place overall. The entire squad showcased great strength, as we won teams classification, so we can look forward to the upcoming TTT at the world championships and I can be optimistic about the individual time trial in Innsbruck as well.
