CCC Sprandi Polkowice successfully opened Tour de Slovaquie, as both Jan Tratnik and Kamil Gradek finished the prologue in top 10.
Info: September 12th, Poprad – Poprad, 1,6km (ITT)
Tour of Slovakia got off to a very fast start, with a short prologue, held on the streets of Poprad. The course was only 1,6km long, so one had to go flat out from start to the finish to battle for top places. CCC Sprandi Polkowice approached this opener with a line-up packed with quality time trialists and they quickly occupied top 10, as almost entire squad covered the route under 2:06.
The last starter, overall winner of 2017 edition, Jan Tratnik, was the fastest of the entire “orange squad”, clocking 2:04:38 and taking 6th place. Slovenian was 2 seconds behind Bob Jungels, who set the best time of the day, while Kamil Gradek was just blink of an eye slower than his teammate and finished the prologue in 7th place.
After a long period of training, with not much racing, my legs were quite good, but I think I started this TT too slow. Even though it was only 1,6km long pacing was still very important today. At the finish I felt that I could have gone faster, so I’m a little bit disappointed. My main objective is the world championship time trial though and after this prologue I can be happy with my form – Jan Tratnik explains.
