Due to a late, high-speed crash that occurred on stage 1, Alan Banaszek was unable to start on the following day. Outside of cuts and bruises he also sustained two fractures in his hand. With him out of the lineup, CCC Sprandi Polkowice had to take on stage 2 with only 5 riders.
After Sisr’s aggressive performance in the opening day this time riders in orange, didn’t make it into the breakaway. Those who did were Michaal Gogl, Floris Gerts and Aksel Aasheim. Just like yesterday, the peloton kept the escape in check, not letting the gap to exceed 3 minutes.
After second intermediate sprint, at which Gogl got his bonus seconds, he sat up to wait for the main pack. Only two guys left in the front and their chances of holding off the chasers were very slim. They got reeled back in with more than 30km to go.
The finale saw lots of attacks in undulating terrain, but none of them stuck. It came down to a sprint from around 40-man bunch and it was won by Michael Albasini. He bested Pim Ligthart and Kristoffer Halvorsen.
Michał Paluta was the top finisher of Polkowice-based squad, as he took 11th place. Also Paweł Bernas and Jonas Koch made in into top 20, as they took 13th and 17th respectively. Frantisek Sisr came in in the bunch and now sits in 4th place overall, while the squad leads in the teams classification.
