Davide Rebellin was unable to maintain his 2nd place in GC, but kept the podium spot and finished 3rd in the Tour du Limousin. The last stage ended with a bunch sprint and the Manuel Belletti’s victory. Mauro Finetto protected his leader jersey and became the winner of 47th edition of the French race.
Three categorized climbs (all cat. 3) were waiting for the riders on stage 4. The finish line was set on a short hill but it was not as steep and long as on previous days. That’s why big time differences were not expected.
After lively first hour of racing the breakaway was finally formed. There were no CCC Polsat Polkowice riders in it but it was not as important, as helping Davide Rebellin protect his podium spot in the general classification.
Domont (AG2R-La Mondiale), Quemeneur (Europcar), De Greef (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Zardini (Bardiani – CSF), Guillou (Bretagne-Seché) and Gonçalves (La Pomme – Marseille 13) were working in the front of the race while CCC Polsat Polkowice together with Neri Sottoli were controlling the pace at the head of the bunch. Due to the cooperation of those two teams, the advantage of the breakaway never exceeded 3 minutes.
When the gap dropped under one minute Quemeneur got dropped and came back to the peleton. Two riders substituted him in the front – Christophe Kern (Europcar) and Jérémy Bescond (Cofidis). They were responsible for increased advantage, which reached 1:30.
With 10 km to go, the lead was still around one minute and the breakaway chances were still open. Kern was doing most of the work in the front and was the last one to get caught. He was reeled in at flamme rouge and it came down to a bunch sprint. It was won by Manuel Belletti (Androni Giocattoli – Venezuela). He outsprinted Kévin Reza (Europcar) and Bjorn Leukemans (Wanty – Groupe Gobert), who moved to 2nd place in GC and surpassed Davide Rebellin. The Italian rider dropped to 3rd overall. He claimed his 11th podium spot of the 2014 season.
Race leader Mauro Finetto (Neri Sottoli) arrived in the peleton and took the final victory.
