Second stage and second top 10 spot for CCC Sprandi Polkowice. This time it was Paweł Bernas’s turn, who won the sprint for 7th place from a chasing group.
Info: Stage 2, February 23rd, Antalya – Antalya, 118,3km
Course: hilly, flat finish (cat. 1 with less than 60km to go)
It was another rainy and quite chilly stage in Turkey. Thankfully it was a short and fast one, with 118km on the menu. Soon after the start a 6-man breakaway was formed (no CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders in it) and it included three Tirol Team members.
They worked well together but the pace in the peloton was not easy either. The gap got narrowed on the climb and the main field got shattered in the demanding terrain. Escapees got caught with more than 20km to go and 6-man leading group entered the decisive stretch. “Riders in orange” were unable to join them, while Wim Kleiman (Monkey Town) was the fastest at the finish. He bested Matthias Krizek (Team Felbermayr – Simplon Wels) and Johannes Schinnagel (Tirol Cycling Team).
Paweł Bernas was the team’s strongest rider of the day, as he held on to the chasing group and won the sprint for 7th place.
