Paweł Franczak was up there with the fastest men of stage 1 of Tour of Antalya, finishing inside top 10.
Info: Stage 1, February 22nd, Antalya – Korkuteli, 158,6km
Course: hilly, flat finish (cat. 1 and cat. 3 on the menu)
First climb of the stage (cat. 1) and of the entire race, saw 6 riders breaking away. Among them there were no CCC Sprandi Polkowice representatives though. Attackers established a solid gap of few minutes, but halfway through the stage two riders got dropped, leaving four in the lead. The weather conditions were not great for racing, as it was raining for most of the day and when the bunch reached the top of cat. 1 climb it got quite chilly.
They were unable to outpace the chasing peloton and got caught in the last 10km of racing. The finale was quite hectic, with few crashes. Adrian Kurek was involved in one of them, but didn’t suffer any serious injuries. It came down to a bunch sprint, which was won by Matteo Poschetti (Polartec-Kometa). Jakub Mareczko (Wilier Triestina – Selle Italia) got 2nd and Konrad Gessner (Leopard) 3rd.
Paweł Franczek was right there with the main sprinters and sprinted to 10th place. Mateusz Taciak was forced to abandon due to sickness.
