CCC Sprandi Polkowice kicked off the Tour of Austria with 11th place in the short team time trial, which opened up the stage race.
The “orange aquad” which included Maciej Paterski, Jan Hirt, Sylwester Szmyd, Branislau Samoilau, Mateusz Taciak, Bartłomiej Matysiak, Leszek Pluciński and Łukasz Owsian covered the 5,4-kilometer course in 5 minutes and 59 seconds. The winning time, set by Katusha, was 14 seconds faster. The Russian team bested MTN – Qhubeka and BMC Racing. The teams were racing on a flat route, on the roads of Wien.
Rudiger Selig from Katusha is the first leader of the Austrian event. He will protect the jersey on Stage 1, from Mörbisch do Scheibbs. 205 kilometers, and two categorized climbs (cat. 3 and 4) in the second part of the distance, are on the menu. The second KOM is located 20 kilometers from the finish.
