CCC Sprandi Polkowice kicked off Tour of Austria with top 10 place claimed by Adrian Honkisz in the short, uphill prologue.
The prologue had an unusual format. The time trial in Kitzbüheler Horn was only 600 metres long, but all uphill with sections of 15% gradient. First “rider in orange” to face that climb was Jan Hirt, who finished 3rd overall last year and Patryk Stosz was the last one to roll off the starting ramp.
Adrian Honkisz recorded the best time among the “riders in orange”. When he crossed the line the clock stopped at 1:14. That gave him 8th place, with the result 4 seconds slower than the time of the winner, William Clarke (Drapac). He bested Lukas Schlemmer (WSA-Greenlife) and a Pole, Sylwester Janiszewski (Wibatech Fuji).
New Zelander will try to defend his jersey on tomorrow’s, relatively flat stage from Innsbruck to Salzburg.
