Alan Banaszek and Maciej Paterski both sprinted into top 15 on stage 6 of OVO Energy Tour of Britain.
Info: Stage 6, 8th of September, Newmarket – Aldeburgh 186,9km
How it unfolded
The opening of the stage saw lots of breakaway attempts and rain pouring from the sky. With 12km into the race 7-man group managed to go clear and it included Enrico Barbin (Bardiani – CSF), Regan Gough, Damien Shaw (both An Post Chain Reaction), Jacob Hennessy (Great Britain), Hayden McCormick (One Pro Cycling), Connor Swift (Madison Genesis) and Harry Tanfield (BIKE Channel Canyon). Because of bad weather bunch didn’t want to give that group too much space, keeping the gap under 3 minutes.
Escapees rode very conservatively though, keeping some power for the final 20 kilometers. Peloton had to dig deep to catch them, as the leaders were brought back in with 3km to go.
With a right bend 300m before the line, positioning was extremely important in that sprint. CCC Sprandi Polkowice was leading out their young sprinter, Alan Banaszek, who at the end of the day took 12th place. Maciej Paterski was also in the mix, claiming 13th.
Caleb Ewan was not only the sneakiest, but also the fastest grabbing his third stage win. He edged out Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) and Dylan Groenewegen (Team LottoNL-Jumbo). Lars Boom (Team LottoNL-Jumbo) retained his GC jersey.
