Łukasz Owsian finished 32nd in the first mountainous stage of 2018 Tour of Croatia, which featured mountain top finish to Sv. Jure.

5-man breakaway was riding up the road for most of the stage and kept over 5-minute advantage. “Riders in orange” were aware of the difficulties that await them in the finale and were saving energy in the bunch.
They moved up to the helm of the peloton on the approach to the bottom of the 29-kilometer ascent to Sv. Jure, so the best climber in the sprinters and time trialist filled lineup, Łukasz Owsian could take on the climb well positioned. By doing that they also reduced the gap to 2 minutes.
When the road kicked up the breakaway split an also peloton began to shrink. Owsian was able to keep up with the strongest for the first few kilometers, but eventually he sat up and continued to go at his own, solid pace. After enormously demanding battle he finished in 32nd, 14:42 behind.
Kanstantsin Siutsou (Bahrain Merida) claimed the stage win and took over the GC lead. In the finishing meters he defeated Pieter Weening (Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij), while Yevgeniy Gidich (Astana) got third.
