Victor de la Parte completed the stage event, Tour of Croatia in 3rd place overall. Another CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider Felix Grossschartner took 4th in GC.
The final stage was relatively flat and ended with hilly laps in the city of Zagreb. There were also two intermediate sprints located on the course and this where Victor de la Parte planned to gain some bonus seconds to move up to 2nd overall.
By breaking away, a 6-man group interrupted him to materialize that plan. The escapee didn’t last up front too long though, as they got caught with 100 kilometers to go. Their biggest recorded gap was around 2:30.
The next move included 5 riders and also this time the bunch didn’t let go any of CCC Sprandi Polkowice guys. The escape was caught as well, but it happened late, on the laps in Zagreb and the last attackers got reeled in inside the last kilometer.
At that point the bunch was shattered and stretched out, but both of the team leaders – Victor de la Parte and Felix Grossschartner managed to stay with the strongest. They protected their places in GC – finishing the race in 3rd and 4th respectively. Also Matija Kvasina (Synergy Baku) and Jesper Hansen (Tinkoff) were able to hold on to their top 2 spots.
The stage was won by Sondre Holst Enger (IAM Cycling) who bested Edward Theuns (Trek – Segafredo) and Timothy Dupont (Verandas Willems Cycling Team). Maciej Paterski arrived in 11th place and was the squad’s top finisher.
