Anuar Manan (Terengganu Cycling Team) won, after a field sprint, the 5th stage of the cycling race of Tour of Hainan. On Monday the cyclists rode the distance from Haikou to Chengmai and they covered 151.6 km.
The second place at the finishing line of the Monday stretch was taken by the club mate of Manan, Mohd Harrif Salleh. The 3rd contestant was Ricco Rogers (Giant Kenda Cycling Team). In the first group there were 94 riders altogether, including five riders of CCC Polsat Polkowice. Sylwester Janiszewski, who finished in the 9th position was the best of the Polkowice riders. Kamil Zieliński was unlucky, riding the last 2 kilometres of the stage with a tyre punctured, 20 seconds after the peloton.
The fifth stage of the race went in a very quick pace – at times the cyclists rode in a flat area at 70 km/h. It also abounded in a big number of defects, also among the CCC Polsat Polkowice riders. The technical support was required among others by Charucki, Batek, Kiendyś, and twice by the leader of the Polkowice team for that race, Zieliński.
The hardships of that stage were made even bigger by the high temperature and the very high humidity of the air – 90% – which made the weather muggy and stuffy, which resulted in difficulty in breathing. A quick pace of the ride in the first part of that stretch added to it, so … it was not easy.
At the head of the general classification of Tour of Hainan no changes. The yellow jersey was worn after the 5th stage by the Frenchman Jules (19:02.25). The second place, 7 seconds behind the leader is held by Valentin Igliński (Team Astana). Alexander Schmitt (Team Eddy Merckx) is the third, also seven seconds behind the leader.
The highest place out of the Polish riders is the 24th position of Dariusz Batek, who is 16 seconds adrift of the leading Frenchman. Taciak is the 32nd (+ 21 seconds), Zieliński 35th (+ 36 sek.), Matysiak 47th (+ 3.28), Kiendyś 76th (+ 7.31), Charucki 92nd (+ 30.31) and Janiszewski 100th (+ 36.08).
In the teams classification CCC Polsat Polkowice is holding the 7th place.
On Tuesday the 6th stage of the race, from Chengmai to Danzhou, 173 kilometres long.
