Marko Kump sprinted to 16th place in stage 2 of Tour of Slovenia.
Info: June 14th, stage 2, Maribor – Rogaska Slatina, 157,2km
It didn’t take long until the breakaway of the day was established. 3 riders managed to go away early, gaining over 5 minutes on the bunch with all CCC Sprandi Polkowice guys. The peloton paced their chase perfectly, bringing the escapees back with 10km to go.
At that point almost entire orange squad was gathered around Marko Kump, at the head of the field to provide him with the best position for the finale.
Other teams, mostly from World Tour, had similar plan though, making it hard for the orange train to maintain their spots. Marko Kump eventually finished 16th, as Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) sprinted to victory, ahead of Matteo Pelucchi (Bora Hansgrohe) and Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton Scott).
