Info: Stage 4, April 19th, Chiusa/Klausen  –  Lienz, 134,3km

Course: hilly

Stage 4 saw a strong group of 9 riders going clear and establishing a solid lead. With quality riders, such as Felix Grossschartner or Ben Hermans, peloton couldn’t allow them to gain too much ground and kept the gap within reasonable range. CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders were all riding in the main group, protecting their leader, Michal Schlegel.

Even though the cooperation in the escape was going well, the power of the chasing bunch was simply too much for the escapees and they were brought back in on cat. 2 climb Bannberg. In the ascent the main pack was very lively and after multiple attacks the field split. Schlegel was unable to follow the first group and eventually finished in 19th place, 50 seconds behind the winner, Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), who pulled away solo from his rivals in the finale.

Before final stage of the race Michal Schlegel sits in 12th place, 2:37 behind the GC leader, Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ).
