Tour of Turkey – Cavendish’s fourth victory at the end of the race

Marc Cavendish (Omega Pharma – Quick Step) after the effective finish was the winner of the last 8 stage of the Tour of Turkey. In the general classification won Adam Yates (Orica GreenEdge).

At the end of the competition in the Tour of Turkey, riders competed on stage, which ran through the streets of Istanbul. They had to overcome 121 km very flat route, divided into eight rounds.

Shortly after the start of the peloton, the riders imposed very high driving speed and despite many attacks no one managed to pull away from the group. Only at one of the next rounds a group of seven riders went away and among them were: Tomasz Kiendyś (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Valerio Conti (Lampre-Merida), Paolo Colonna (Bardi), Javier Aramendia (Caja Rural), Nazim Bakirci (Torku) Youcef Reguigi (MTN) and Javier Mejias (Novo Nordisk).

The advantage of escaping groups was low and ranged between 1 minute. In the head remained three cyclists: Kiendyś , Colonna and Aramendia , which at 10th kilometers to the finish line was absorbed by the speeding peloton. Cooperation in the escaping group wasn’t good in the end – said participant Tomasz Kiendyś. We were aware of the strength of the paloton, but even so the three of us tried to fight the greatest advantage. Unfortunately, the peloton did not give us a chance. Summing up the whole race, I think we showed up in Turkey from a good side. We are pleased that among the many excellent teams we took the third place in the team’s classification. We had two cyclists to fight in the general and we tried their best to help. We were visible in this race and I think that we achieved our goals – Tomasz Kiendyś ended. At last the final kilometers an excellent job for their sprinter, made Omega Pharma-Quick Step. It allowed Mark Cavendishes without any problem to reach the fourth stage victory and defeated Elia Viviani and Andrea Guardini.

The winner of the race became the cyclist from GreenEdge team – Adam Yates.

Very high, fifth place in the overall standings took Davide Rebellin and Tomasz Marczyński finished in 13th place.
