Elia Viviani (Cannondale) broke the dominance of Marek Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) on the sprint stages the Tour of Turkey and was the winner of the fifth stage of the race. In the general classification the leading was maintain by Rein Taaramae (Cofidis).
5th stage of Tour of Turkey is another section of the route where, despite several long uphills belonged to the stages for sprinters. The riders started from Marmaris and after 177 km crossing the finish line in Turgutreis near Bodrum.
According to the prediction the peloton “let go” nine cyclists and all the time controlling its course. In the escaping group were: Matihas Krizek (Cannondale), Nicola Boem (Bardi-CSF), Fabrico Ferrari (Caja Rural-RGA), Lachlan Norris (Drapac), Dennis Van Niekerk (MTN-Qhubeka), Marc De Maar (UnitedHealtcare) Nico Sijmens (shrouds), Mattio Pozzo and Mirko Tedeschi (Neri Sottoli). Escape gained an advantage over the peloton reaching about 3 minutes and it was the biggest advantage they gained.
