On stage 3 of Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, CCC Sprandi Polkowice claimed their third consecutive top 10 spot, thanks to strong performance in the sprint by Jonas Koch.
Info: 12th of October, Fethiye – Marmaris, 128,6km
How it unfolded
As one could imagine, the short stage got off to a fast start, but the breakaway formed early, with just few kilometers into the race. Ferit Can Samlı (Türk Milli Takımı), Gregory Daniel (Trek-Segafredo) and Thomas Deruette (WB Veranclassic) went clear and gained over 6 minutes on the bunch.
With 25km to go, when the gap was down to 1 minute, Daniel left his fellow escapees behind and was trying to hold off the chasing peloton by himself. His chances of succeeding were very small though and he got caught with 10km to go, at the bottom of 3-kilometer hill.
The climb saw high pace and few attempts to pull away. That action caused the group to split and Jonas Koch, together with Mateusz Taciak, were able to stay with the first, 40-man bunch. German again was in the mix in the sprint, securing third consecutive top 10 spot in the race for CCC Sprandi Polkowice, as he took 9th.
Sam Bennett (Bora – hansgrohe) recorded a hat-trick winning the stage and reinforcing his lead in GC standings. He bested at the line Edward Theuns (Trek-Segafredo) and Simone Consonni (UAE Team Emirates).
