The “orange squad” perfectly led-out Szymon Sajnok into the finishing straight of stage 2 of Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, but just before the line his chain slipped off and that ruled him out of the contention.
Info: October 10th, Alanya – Antalya, 149,6 km
The scenario was quite similar to stage 1. Four riders pulled away soon after the start and the peloton never let them get too much space. With 70km to go the gap was already down to just 1:20, so the escapees were never a threat to the sprinters’ teams.
They got caught with 10km to go and for second consecutive day the fast men were in the spotlight. AS it was agreed during the pre-race meeting, CCC Sprandi Polkowice waited long with moving to the head of the pack, but they finally made their move with 3km remaining. It was very important to tackle the last corner, 1km from the line, in first positions. Paweł Bernas made sure to bring Szymon Sajnok to the helm of the peloton there and the youngster opened the sprint with the top-shelf opponents.
He was sitting in 5-6th, but just before the final kick, his chain slipped off and by the time he placed it back on, his rivals were already reaching the peak of their speed. Sajnok crossed the line in 17th place, while Sam Bennett took the win and the overall lead.
