Szymon Sajnok sprinted to 7th place on stage 5 of Presidential Tour of Turkey, which was marked by the breakaway with Amaro Antunes.
Info: October 13th, Selcuk – Manisa, 135,7km
The stage got off to a fast start, with multiple breakaway attempts. The first 30km of racing didn’t see an escape forming, but eventually a 5-man group got a gap. Amaro Antunes was one of the lucky attackers and he was joined by Onur Balkan, Aime De Gendt, Rafael Reis and Nikolay Trusov.
They opened a 2:30 lead, but that wasn’t enough to outpace the field. They got caught inside closing 10km and the stage was decided after the battle of sprinters.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice once again worked hard for their youngest teammate, Szymon Sajnok, so he can start the sprint well positioned. He jumped from behind top contenders with 200m to go, on the left hand side to take 7th place at the line.
Alvaro Hodeg was the fastest man of the day, besting John Degenkolb and Nathan Haas. Alexey Lutsenko retained the leading jersey.
