After 8th place on the opening stage, CCC Sprandi Polkowice recorded another top 10 finish in Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. This time Fratisek Sisr sprinted to 10th place.
Info: 11st of October, Kumlica – Fethiye, 206km
How it unfolded
It was a fierce battle to get into the breakaway of the day, but eventually the escape included only 2 riders – Mirco Maestri (Bardiani CSF) and Onur Balkan (Turkey). Half through the stage Murilo Affonso (Funvic/Brasil Pro Cycling) joined the leaders, who at that point had over 3 minutes of advantage over the peloton. Due to long distance pace in the bunch was easy, as nobody wanted to waste too much energy.
Balkan was not able to keep up with his fellow escapees and got dropped early. The remaining duo stayed up front until 12km to go.
Peloton didn’t put in too much effort into chasing the breakaway, but they speeded up drastically in the finale. Teams were fighting for space and position, setting up their trains. CCC Sprandi Polkowice also tried to provide good spot in the group for their sprinter, Frantisek Sisr. Czech returned the favor claiming 10th place in Fethiye.
Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) took his back-to-back victory, outspring Edward Theuns (Trek – Segafredo) and Riccardo Minali (Astana Pro Team). Irishman retained the GC jersey.
