Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) after finishing from the peloton won the 4th stage fo Tour of Turkey. The leader of the race remained still Rein Taaramae (Cofidis).
After yesterday’s very difficult mountain stage , today the riders struggled with the route much lighter , though severely hilly . It ran from Fethiye to Marmaris and its length was only 124 km .
Heavy rains during the 4th stage, made the road’s surface very slippery and numerous accidents occurred. Accordingly , the judges decided to stop the peloton for half an hour and neutralize escape which had previously went away from the fundamental group.
In the escape drove: Maxim Belkov ( Katusha ), Guillermo Mas ( Caja Rural Seguros RGA – ), Adam Phelan ( Drapac ), Frederik BACKAERT ( Shrouds – Groupe Gobert ) and Andrea Fedi ( Neri Sottoli ). Their advantage over the peloton was less than three minutes. On the last uphill, 10 km before the finish in Marmaris, there was no escaping the peloton very strongly ” pulled “. The finish were played perfectly by Omega Pharma team, putting Mark Cavendish at convenient positions for the attack.
Robert Krajewski : As expected, the finish of the fourth stage came a large group and decided to finish the victory of the pack. Despite the activity of our players at the start of the stage , this time we did not have his rider in the escape. Tomorrow I expect a similar scenario as today. We will try to take up all the departures and distribute our final meters sprinter Grzegorz Stepniak – ended Robert Krajewski .
At the last driveway , there was some confusion with the result that Davide Rebellin was slightly behind and to run came from 10 seconds behind . In the overall race fell to 13th place losing to the leader Rein Taaramae ( Cofidis ) 48 seconds.
