Jan Tratnik proved to be the top favorite to win CCC Tour – Grody Piastowskie, by taking stage 1, individual time trial in Polkowice. It was also a great team performance, since 6 “riders in orange” finished the stage inside top 10.
Info: May 10th, Polkowice – Polkowice, 16,2km (ITT)
Even though the profile didn’t suit me perfectly, since I prefer more hilly terrain, I was able to get the win and the leader jersey – Jan Tratnik explains. – The course was quite technical, with many turns and some potholes, which didn’t allow me to find my ideal rhythm. After reaching high watts I had to slow down and then accelerate again.
Now we have the leader jersey and 6 riders in the top 10. That will allow us to control the race on the next stages. We expect that other teams will keep on attacking, but I believe that we have a strong team which is capable of defending the lead all the way. I’m not a climber, and there are some tough climbs ahead, but the yellow jersey always gives you that extra boost and motivation.
Jan Tratnik covered the 16,2-kilometer time trial with the start and finish in Polkowice in 20:13. He was 5 seconds faster than Jan Barta (Elkov-Author) who got second. Kamil Gradek set the third best time (10s back), while Szymon Sajnok, best U23 rider, was fourth (+19s). In total six CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders finished in the top 10, as Mateusz Taciak was 6th (+33s), Łukasz Owsian 9th (+46s) and Paweł Bernas 10th (+51).
In the evening another stage will take place, from Polkowice to Głogów (97km).
