Jan Tratnik won the prologue of Tour of Slovakia and became first leader of the race. In total four riders of CCC Sprandi Polkowice finished inside the top 10 and Piotr Brożyna took the lead in youth classification.
Info: Prologue, June 6th, Levoca – Levoca, 3,7km (ITT)
Course: flat, technical
How it unfolded?
The “orange squad” took on the race – just like all the other teams – with a 6-man rosters and basically every member of CCC Sprandi Polkowice was placed at the top of the standings after crossing the line. Piotr Brożyna, who set 5:03, was sitting in the hot seat for a long time, until Mattia Cattaneo (Androni Giocattoli) recorded 4:58. Moment later Josef Cerny bettered that result, with 4:50, but CCC Sprandi Polkowice had the last word. Jan Tratnik smashed the leading time, posting 4:43, securing the stage win and taking the overall lead.
I didn’t know what to expect, since I felt very tired in the last few days, after Giro d’Italia. If somebody had told me in the morning, that I was going to win it, I wouldn’t have believed it – Jan Tratnik said afterwards. – But just before the prologue I put all those thoughts aside and I concentrated on the right warm up. I went full gas from start to finish, taking risk on that technical course, with an uphill finale. The prologue suited me and the risk paid off. I’m very happy about this win, especially since it’s my first individual triumph as a CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider.
It was a superb performance by the entire team, as in total, four riders of Polkowice-based squad finished inside the top 10 – Piotr Brożyna took 5th taking the youth classification jersey, while Marcin Białobłocki was 7th and Frantisek Sisr 9th
