Kamil Małecki has kicked off his cyclo cross season on a high note. He finished two races in Bytów in third and second respectively, winning twice in U23 category.
I really surprised myself with my performance, since I hadn’t expected such a good result that early. My rivals were in little shock as well – Kamil Małecki said afterwards.
In a Saturday’s class A race he took third, as he was defeated only by Bartosz Pilis and Patryk Kostecki. On Sunday he was close from winning III Marek Cichosz Memorial (Polish Cup) and claimed second.
On Saturday, I started the race from the last row, since I hadn’t taken part in cyclo cross events this season and I had no points in the ranking. I managed to quickly move up front and get into the 7-man leading group. I tried to go clear couple of times, but eventually I finished third – Małecki explained. – Marek Cichosz Memorial began with 5 riders breaking away and I was part of that move. With two laps to go I took off alongside Bartosz Pilis. In the finale I tried to attack him and leave him behind but he would always respond to my acceleration. The races was decided in a two-man sprint and I lost only by one meter.
Małecki knew the course as well as anybody, since he’s from Bytów and he started his cycling career in the club of MLKS Baszta Bytów – The course was technical, muddy and hilly. It fit me perfectly – he said.
For young CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider, it was a debut in the cyclo cross 2015/2016 season, but those two races in Bytów were not the last ones this year.
– My form is pretty good already and I should improve with every race. I plan to take part in another events in Sławno, in two weeks and later in Białystok and Lublin. If the schedule of the preparation for the road season allows, I would like to take part in the Polish Championship in cyclo cross and aim at the U23 medal – he concludes.
