Michał Paluta was the team’s top finisher in the first out of three Croatian races, which open up the season for CCC Sprandi Polkowice U23 riders – Umag Trophy.
The race was held on a 23-kilometer lap, which was covered seven times (151km in total). There was one hill on the circuit but it was not difficult enough to split the group and make things easier for the breakaway. In fact, nobody was able to pull away to far throughout the entire race and at the end it was all about the sprinters.
There were multiple attempts to break clear, but the peloton let the attackers create a gap not bigger than 15-20 seconds. The pace was high from the very start and one needed to dig deep to establish a bigger advantage. The situation at the front slightly changed in the final 50 kilometers, when Michal Schlegel (Klein Constantia) and Michael Taferner (WSA-Greenlife) were able to gain one minute over the bunch. They got caught on the last lap though.
The race was decided in a bunch sprint finish. Youngster Jonas Bokeloh (Klein Constantia) captured the victory, as he outsprinted Mamyr Stash (Gazprom-RusVelo) and Filippo Fortini (GM Europa Ovini). For the second consecutive time (after GP Izola), Michał Paluta finished in the top 25, as he claimed 22nd place.
