In his first race in orange colors, Victor De la Parte clocked 21st place in the opening stage of Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana – individual time trial. The Spaniard was the top finisher of CCC Sprandi Polkowice.
The 16-kilometer time trial was not an easy one. It included a cat. 3 climb, which was about 2 kilometers long. There were 4 kilometers to cover after cresting the top. Victor de la Parte was the strongest among the CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders on that course. The cyclist from Basque Country specializes in racing against the clock and has few victories in professional cycling under his belt in TT. He confirmed his skills by taking 21st place, as he recorded 23:17. He was 43 down on the winner, Wout Poels.
The Dutchman posted an untouchable time – 22:34 and defeated Luis Leon Sanchez, who was second, and Vasil Kiryienka who got third, by 14 and 20 seconds respectively.
Mateusz Taciak was the second fastest CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider. He rode to 31st place, 1 minute off the pace. In a last-minute decision, he, and Łukasz Owsian replaced Sylwester Szmyd and Felix Großschartner in the team’s lineup. They were not allowed to take part in the race due to the delay of implementing their registration data to UCI system. They should be eligible to compete in the next UCI event.
Tomorrow is arguably the hardest day of racing. The stage finishes with a 14-kilometer, cat. 1 slope to Fredes. Eventhough this is still only the second stage, this is where the general classification may be decided.
