CCC Sprandi Polkowice set 4th best time in team time trial, stage 3 of Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Info: Stage 3, February 2nd, Benitatxell – Calpe, 23,2km
Course: flat, twisty and technical
Due to extreme, wet weather conditions and strong wind before the stage, race organizers had decided to not count TTT’s times towards the general classification. Because of that some teams decided to take it easy and some went for the stage win. CCC Sprandi Polkowice’s approach was to go strong, but not take too much risk at the same time.
“Riders in orange” set 29:01 at the finish line, taking the lead. Afterwards only three teams, all World Tour – BMC Racing, Astana and AG2R La Mondiale, bested that result, pushing CCC Sprandi Polkowice off the podium.
It is very good result, if you take into consideration that it’s the beginning of the season. We didn’t take too much risk in the sharp, wet or slippery turns but in those sections were you could go fast, we didn’t hold back. I’m very happy with our guys’ performance today – Piotr Wadecki, DS of CCC Sprandi Polkowice explained. – It was a very technical and twisty TTT, so aerodynamics, which we worked on during the off-season, were not a big factor. We will draw conclusions from tests conducted at the velodrome and wind tunnel, after other time trials, which are not as technical and where position on the bike is more crucial.
I must admit that I was surprised with the decision made by the organizers, as the conditions were not bad enough to neutralize the results – he sums up.
Since the times were not counted towards the GC, Amaro Antunes maintained his 11th place overall.
