Two CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders finished in the top 25 on the last stage of Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Info: Stage 5, February 5th, Valencia – Valenca, 51km
Course: Due to extreme wind, the stage was shortened to 5 flat laps (7,2km each) around Valencia.
The shortened stage kicked off with many attacks and Iljo Keisse (Quick Step Floors) and Sep Vanmarcke (Cannondale Drapac) managed to break clear. The former left the latter behind and for few laps did a solo time trial. On a penultimate circuit he was joined by Michał Kwiatkowski (Team Sky) and together they were trying hold off the bunch.
They were very close from surviving all the way, but their dreams of stage win faded away inside the last 1 kilometer. The duo got caught and it was all decided in a bunch sprint, which was won by Bryan Coquard (Direct Energie). He bested Nacer Buhanni (Cofidis) and Coen Vermeltrooft (Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij).
Two “riders in orange” finished in the top 25. Jan Tratnik crossed the line in 19th and Maciej Paterski in 22nd.
Nairo Quintanta (Movistar) took the overall win, while Łukasz Owsian completed the event in 31st (8:11).
