Volta a Valenciana: De la Parte as the team’s top finisher on the hardest stage

Victor de la Parte was the strongest CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider on the hardest stage of Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, which ended with an 13-kilometer climb to Fredes. He arrived at the summit in the top 30, as Daniel Martin earned an impressive win.

The stage kicked off with a 5-man group, with no CCC Sprandi Polkowice members in it, breaking clear. They established over 5-minute lead. The peloton was aware of the demanding finale and maintained the gap at the reasonable level.

Eventually the break got caught with 12 kilometers to go. At that point “riders in orange” were pedaling in the front, waiting for the decisive moves.

The final climb saw few attacks from the field. First it was the duo Sonny Colbrelli, Imanol Estevez who tried to create a gap, but their attempt was quickly neutralized. Next one to attack was Jose Herrara, but he was also reeled in. The rider who pushed the pace the strongest in the last kilometer was Daniel Martin. He rocketed from the the group and grabbed a solo win. The finish line was located just a little bit over the summit, after a short descent, and this is where he could raise his arms in joy. He defeated Herrara and race leader, Wout Poels.

Victor de la Parte came in in 29th place, 23 seconds behind the winner. He was the top finisher of CCC Sprandi Polkowice.
